The Firestik FG2-DD Series No Ground Plane (NGP) 27MHz antennas are specifically designed to solve the problem of a missing ground plane (ground) found in vehicles with plastic, fiberglass, wood, or aluminum bodies. This includes RVs, boats, cars, and trucks.

Ground issues often manifest as high standing wave ratios (SWR) and poor performance. The isolated ground plane in the FG2-DD Series also solves problems with metal vehicles that lack ground plane. The FG2-DD Series is designed to be mounted on a flat, horizontal surface. These antennas are ideal for RV roofs, boat decks, RV roofs, Corvette trunks, or fiberglass or aluminum truck roofs. The installed height is just under 29 inches (74 cm) overall.

Firestik No ground antenna performance

Firestik antennas in this series utilize the same 5/8 wave as the patented Firestik II adjustable tip antenna. The frequency of the antennas is adjusted to maintain a desired center position in conjunction with the tuned coaxial cable. Therefore, these antennas should only be used with Firestik NGP cable. The core material is a 3/8 inch (10 mm) diameter reinforced plastic (fiberglass). The special formulation provides an optimum balance of flexibility and strength. The chrome plated brass mounting base has standard 3/8-24 threads. An efficient, tension-enhancing helical winding is used. Heavy-gauge insulated copper wire protects against shorts and corrosion commonly found in non-Firestik antennas. The antenna in this kit has a patented, tool-less adjustable tip for quick and easy SWR adjustments. The maximum power of the antenna in this kit is 100 watts. Each antenna is covered with a static reducing, heavy-duty PVC heat shrink tubing containing both pigment and UV stabilizers. Available colors are black or white with a red tip, or red or blue with a white tip.

Mounting and mounting material

The 20ft coax cable included in this series is of the highest quality, Firestik uses specially manufactured coax cable that is only found at Firestik. Because the performance of commercial coax cables was not up to par, they designed their own cable. Firestik uses a multi-stranded center conductor to prevent breakage that can occur with a solid center conductor. This phenomenon, known as "c old working" , occurs with vibration and can brittle and eventually break solid conductors. Surrounding the center conductor is a long life, flexible polyethylene insulation. Because shielding is critical for NGP systems, Firestik uses a double shield around the center conductor. First, a 100% aluminum tape covers the center conductor insulator, then a copper wire braid (average 95% coverage vs. the standard 70%) is applied over the aluminum tape. The coaxial cable not only serves as a conductor for the signal to the antenna, but also as a tuned circuit that creates the necessary counterbalance. If a longer cable is required, the user can add standard RG-58 A/U cable between the radio and system cable, preferably in lengths that are a multiple of 9 feet. Because it is a tuned circuit, the length cannot be shortened without causing irreparable damage. Should the cable become damaged, order replacement cable model K-8NGP.

To complement the quality of the antenna and cable, the outer mounting plate is stainless steel and includes a rubber sealing ring. The stainless steel spring with machined brass ends acts as a coupling between the antenna and the cable.

Extra

Each kit includes a FREE microphone holder and comes with installation documentation.

Remember : A ll antennas, regardless of style or manufacturer, MUST be tuned to the vehicle after installation. Transmitting antennas are not plug and play devices.

Replacing the antenna

FS series whips look the same as FG series whips. BUT FG series whips are wound differently and have a different resonant frequency. Therefore, these whips are not interchangeable.
