This high quality 27MHz antenna comes complete with a 120cm (4ft) antenna and a 3-way mounting bracket. The included antenna bracket allows you to mount this antenna to a vertical or horizontal mirror arm, roof rail, other suitable mounting points on a vehicle, or to a flat vertical surface.

The KW4-SMK comes with 5.5 meters of Fire Flex premium RG-58A/U coaxial cable, complete with two screw-on PL-259 connectors. As an extra, you will receive a stainless steel spring and a microphone holder when purchasing this antenna.

Adjusting the Firestik KW Series

The Firestik KW series is the original Firestik, dating back to 1975, long before the adjustable antenna tip was invented. While many in the 27MHz world thought these antennas would be made obsolete by easier to adjust antenna designs, the popularity of the original has never wavered.

  1. Remove the cap.
  2. Using a knife, make vertical cuts in the tube at the top (apex) of the antenna (about 1-1.5 cm long).
  3. Pull the tube back to expose the wire coil.
  4. Trim the thread, push the thread back into place.
  5. Replace the cap.
  6. Measure the SWR again.
  7. Repeat this process if necessary until the antenna is properly tuned and has a good SWR value.

Installation of the Firestik KW series

These antennas rely on a ground (earth) and require a metal surface to perform well and are not suitable for non-metallic vehicles or those with insufficient metal surfaces . They can also be used to build a base station antenna if a ground plane is available. When used with a transmitter, these antennas must be tuned and tested over the radio's operating frequency. Using an untested, untuned antenna can damage the radio circuitry.

Mounting on metal with a coating layer

Ground dependent antennas require mounting brackets and antenna supports that are grounded to a chassis ground point. Will you be mounting this antenna to a surface that is powder coated, painted or anodized? These layers act as an insulating coating and must be removed before mounting this antenna.
