Yaesu FTA-450L

The Yaesu FTA-450L is a competitively priced version of the hugely successful Yaesu FTA-550L and Yaesu FTA-750L. This FTA-450L features the same easy-to-use icon-driven menu system on a large 1.7 x 1.7 inch (4.32 x 4.32cm) Full Dot Matrix Display and the same Loud 800mW internal audio speaker so calls aren't missed. The FTA-450L is 8.33 kHz Narrow Band compatible and has a programmable memory bank for 200 channels, meaning all favorite channels can be easily stored and retrieved with just a few button presses.

The Yaesu FTA-450L comes complete with all necessary accessories including 110VAC and 12VDC chargers, headset adapter, alkaline battery holder, belt clip, USB programming cable and a large capacity 2200 mAh Li-Ion rechargeable battery.

MIL-STD-810F standard

The Yaesu FTA-450L has been tested and meets the military standard MIL-STD-810F. As with commercial land mobile radios, all current Yaesu Airband Transceivers are tested for durability against low temperatures, high temperatures, shock, vibration, dust and rain, ensuring years of rugged use.

What is a ferrite core?

*Ferrite core is a type of magnetic core made of ferrite on which the windings of electrical transformers and other wound components such as inductors are formed. Ferrite cores are used because of their properties of high magnetic permeability combined with low electrical conductivity. Due to their relatively low losses at high frequencies, they are also widely used in the cores of RF transformers and inductors such as switched-mode power supplies and ferrite loopstick antennas for AM radio receivers.

Ferrites are ceramic compounds of the transition metals with oxygen, which are ferrimagnetic but non-conductive. Ferrites used in transformer or electromagnetic cores contain iron oxides combined with nickel, zinc and/or manganese compounds. They have a low coercivity and are called "soft ferrites" to distinguish them from "hard ferrites", which have a high coercivity and are used to make ferrite magnets. The low coercivity means that the magnetization of the material can easily change direction while dissipating very little energy (hysteresis losses). At the same time, the high resistivity of the material prevents eddy currents in the core, another source of energy loss.
