The Yaesu SCU-17 is a versatile interface designed for digital operating modes and compatible with virtually all current Yaesu transceivers. Thanks to the built-in USB sound card, only one USB cable is required to connect the interface to the computer. The SCU-17 features galvanic isolation of all signals to prevent ground loops, carrying audio-in, audio-out, PTT, FSK and CAT signals. The keying and audio signals are separated by opto-isolators and coupling transformers respectively.
The interface is housed in a robust metal housing to prevent interference from RF radiation. On the front panel there are two NF level controls (input and output), allowing the modulation level to be adjusted in seconds without having to open the sound card settings of the computer. In addition, there are three LED indicators on the front panel showing the status of 'Power', 'PTT' and 'FSK'. The SCU-17 is powered via the USB port.
Connection cables
The Yaesu SCU-17 comes with various cables so that you can use this interface with a Yaesu transceiver. For some models an optional cable is needed. The SCU-17 is designed in such a way that even transceivers with a classic RS-232 interface can be connected to modern computers via USB. In the tab "extra" under the product photo you will find the optionally available cables.
Installation advice
For installation, it is necessary to download and install the "Virtual COM Port Driver" from the Yaesu website. Attention : Install the drivers before connecting the interface to your computer! The drivers can be found at www .yaesu .com under 'Products', 'FT_DX1200', 'Files', 'SCU-17 USB Driver (Virtual COM Port Driver)'.
In addition, it is possible to connect almost all other transceivers from other brands with home-made cables. The pin configuration of the SCU-17 interface is described in detail in the manual.
